    Position Summary


    The Director of Governmental Affairs and Public Relations is responsible for planning, directing and implementing legislative, community and communications activities within Martin Marietta’s southwest region. The position requires service-focused proven leadership and development of proactive approaches to state, county and municipality concerns. This position also provides collaborative solutions for ensuring support for issues and interests of the company.




    Primary responsibilities include:

    • Representing the company with Texas and Oklahoma legislators for the cement, aggregates and ready mix teams
    • Development and training of public relations and community goals for Martin Marietta’s regional team leaders
    • Coordinating division-wide communications to include publications, email announcements and digital signage
    • Coordination of special events and other community and business relationship opportunities with the company’s regional team leaders
    • Supporting Corporate Communications with the design and production of promotional, informational, and educational communications materials

    Essential Functions

    • Monitor and analyze issues, actions, and proposals of state and local governments, which affect the company and industry, and provide relevant and timely communications to divisional leadership teams
    • Working with lobbyist teams, establish strategic plans and priorities to proactively address legislative issues. Oversee and assist lobbyist teams with addressing issues that arise during and outside of session. Work closely with state industry associations to direct governmental affairs initiatives while ensuring adequate support is provided from Martin Marietta.
    • Develop and implement coordinated and collaborative programs to identify and engage key stakeholders in the communities in which we operate through regional team leaders
    • Respond to press inquiries according to company protocol, working with Legal and Corporate Communications, to provide timely and accurate information to promote the Martin Marietta brand and positive public image
    • Assist Corporate Communications with coordination and production of newsletters, advertisements, brochures, news releases, audiovisual materials, and digital signage content
    • Monitor newspapers, industry publications, economic trends, social media, legislation and regulatory ruling that may impact operations, products and procedures or other impacts to shareholder value. Inform divisional leadership of potential issues and recommend solutions and implement solutions upon approval
    • Manage a coordinated approach to community budgeting and expenditure requests; provide oversight for sustainability activities and reporting for divisions
    • Travel to different locations wihin the division including Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. Requires 50% overnight travel. 


    Minimum Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in political science, journalism, public relations, marketing, communications with strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Minimum of five years of experience working on corporate communications, political, issue or policy communications or agency public affairs focusing on public policy, lobbying, issues management, government relations and/or litigation communications in the construction materials sector
