    Position Summary

    The Process Engineer II assists plant management in the identification, analysis, design and implementation of improvement opportunities.

    • Perform all duties in a manner which promotes a safe work environment and safe job performance. Actively participate in all plant safety programs as directed by management.
    • Identify and implement projects or procedures that improve quality and/or reduce plant operating costs in a safe, sustainable and environmentally responsible manner.
    • Responsible for troubleshooting process problems and the identification of solutions which reduce downtime and minimize maintenance costs.
    • Develop/update process procedures to ensure that documentation is accurate and understandable.
    • Interface with all levels of management and employees to gather information and provide guidance for implementation including but not limited to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructional media for hourly employees.
    • As required by management, prepare and conduct entry level training for supervisors and hourly personnel on gas handling, mass balance, chemistry and other process related talents to help develop general trouble shooting ability.
    • Assist in initiating, developing and implementing plant improvement projects including conceptualization of capital projects and justification of same.
    • Work to maintain/further develop expertise and proficiency in the area of cement production.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Responsible for the optimization of the Kiln and FM areas
    • Work with maintenance and other production members to identify root cause of problems
    • Responsible for process preventive activities like kiln mass balance and heat balance, mill profiles and inspections at the plant
    • Monitor and control of the equipment KPIs and materials (raw materials, solid fuels, clinker and cement) inventory control
    • Interface between production department and Capital Project department as needed
    • Take part of the on-call system during weekends and holidays
    • Provide as needed technical support to Midlothian
    • Assist the automation department with interlock analysis and improvements to the security of our process control
    • Responsible for managing PO’s in the production department as needed
    • Responsible for grinding media control and inventory at the plant

    Minimum Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, materials).
    • Completion of EIT program (or equivalent experience) required for Process Engineer II.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

    Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

    Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

    Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

    Knowledge of database, design, internet and manufacturing software

    Proficient in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software.

    Climb up to 60 feet above ground on ladders and catwalks

    Walk/stand on uneven ground, walkways and catwalks throughout the work day

    Must be available to walk, crawl, kneel and climb ladders/stairs to inspect facilities and to observe work activities.


    Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.


    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


    Capability of working for long periods of time in extreme heat and in dusty areas, confined spaces and heights.

    Ability to climb stairs and work at heights (up to 350’).While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and enclosed spaces and vibration. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.
