    Position Summary

      

    Responsible for overall direction of production of aggregate for the Kentucky area of the Ohio District. Manages production personnel to maximize plant and fleet efficiency and safety. Reports to the Ohio District Production Manager. Will lead and grow all aspects of aggregate production in the Kentucky area. This includes managing all aspects of safety, production, and other support functions with primary responsibility for ensuring effective execution of production performance and growth strategy.  Competency requirements include business acumen, customer focus, developing direct reports, drive for results, and strategically building effective teams.  The preferred candidate can lead and motivate within a safe team environment.

        

    Essential Functions

     Cultivates a positive safety culture in assigned operations by championing Guardian Angel and Wing Man principles and philosophy. Builds individual accountability and rewards/recognition into safety approach.

    • Ensures daily coordination between production, delivery, distribution and quality control.
    • Directs production activities to ensure strict adherence to cost and quality standards and takes immediate corrective action when deficiencies are noted; achieves production targets as directed by the Ohio District Production Manager.
    • Provides leadership resulting in maximum production, working closely with Sales Manager and Dispatch to exceed customer expectations, ensure product quality and drive maximum profitability.
    • Provides direction to Plant Managers to ensure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.
    • Builds effective teams and develop direct reports for future opportunities, including cross-training for ready mix and aggregate business.
    • Ensures that all personnel under their supervision comply with Federal, State and local regulations.
    • Ensures company safety rules and regulations are met through periodic inspections of plant machinery, equipment, personal activities and working conditions.
    • Drives operational and safety performance through continuous improvement initiatives that meet or exceed company and regional goals.
    • Develops and nurtures empowerment in all phases of the operation.
    • Responsible for overseeing month end inventories.
    • Responsible for maintaining updated Hazcom and other environmental records and permits for assigned operations. Responsible for compliance and all administration related to environmental regulations. Coordinates environmental issues with Land and Environmental department.
    • Assists in directing the selection, training and development of production personnel - appraises performance of subordinates and takes/recommends appropriate personnel actions as necessary.
    • Recommends management development and necessary training programs for all direct reports
    • Purchases or directs the purchase of supplies and equipment in accordance with company policy- recommends or changes vendors to reduce maintenance costs.
    • Implements and reviews ongoing contracts, purchase orders, appropriations and expenditures requests.
    • Coordinates with the Ohio District Production Manager the needed staffing to properly and safely operate the plants. Coordinates these same needs with the District Human Resources / Safety Manager with attention on labor law compliance.
    • Assists with profit plans, CER’s, market analyses and special reports for the approval of the Ohio District Production Manager.
    • Maintains operational security.
    • Develops an environment of empowerment and teamwork.
    • Other duties as required.

     

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.E.) in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or other related discipline strongly preferred and/or equivalent combination of knowledge, skills and abilities
    • Five (5) or more years’ experience in aggregates, operations preferred
    • Three (3) years’ supervisory or management experience in an aggregate or similar industrial environment

     

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

    • Knowledgeable in MSHA regulations and compliance.
    • Excellent knowledge of aggregate operations and the associated plants and equipment
    • A thorough understanding of quality control processes and ASTM guidelines and specifications regarding aggregates
    • Computer / PC literate. Experience with MS-Office required; must become proficient in JDE, Command and other applications; experience with these applications is preferred
    • Strong organizational and budgeting skills with attention to detail
    • Understanding of all components of plant and departmental cost and production
    • Strong commitment to safety, quality, customer service and plant cleanliness
    • Willingness to prepare for future growth potential within plant and company
    • Ability to manage an empowered workforce; must be able to lead by example and have good coaching skills and be approachable
    • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, other departments and vendors.
