    Reporting to the Vice President Cement Operations, this position is accountable for the performance and operation of the Midlothian Cement plant, Midlothian, Texas.

    • Overall management of the cement plant.
    • Embraces Guardian Angel safety vision and works to bring about cultural changes that will foster all employee participation and acceptance of Guardian Angel and Wingman safety vision.
    • Manages operation and maintenance staff to ensure timely production and distribution of products within quality standards, high uniformity and optimum production cost.
    • Coordinates the development and execution of annual operating plans.
    • Coordinates the development and supervises the execution of capital expenditure plans.
    • Analyze financial reports and KPI’s, evaluate improvement opportunities and effect changes as needed.
    • Prepare short-term and long-range goals and objectives for the plant.
    • Establish goals that reflect continuous improvement in all plant operations.
    • Ensure environmental compliance and clean plant operations.
    • Work cooperatively within sales, technical services and regional staff functions to meet business needs, improve operational excellence, and work to improvement overall business operations.
    • Provide motivation and opportunities for career enhancement, through training and development programs to employees.
    • Manage optimal staffing levels for all departments and overtime use.
    • Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations under MSHA and company policy.
    • Review requests for purchase of parts, supplies and services, and approve or disapprove requests. Actively manage stores inventories to reduce /optimize cash requirements.
    • Provide leadership with employee communications meetings, staff and supervisor meetings, plant audits and all other communications needed to effectively manage plant. Maintain open door policy of employee relations
    • Represent the company in the community and with external parties visiting plant.
    • Identify when specialized skills/resources are needed to capably assess unique activities (e.g. system risks, health and safety risks, etc.).
    • Solid commitment to recognized operating principals of safety, environmental compliance, reliability, product quality/performance and production.
    • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


    The incumbent must understand and comply with company compliance policies, including the Code of Ethical Business Conduct, adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley compliance policy, and is required to participate in compliance training in such policies and provide disclosures and compliance certifications from time to time. As Plant Manager, the incumbent is expected to require compliance with such policies by subordinates, monitor their activities for compliance and disclose incidents of non-compliance as provided by such policies.






    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field with a broad knowledge of the cement and construction materials industry.
    • Significant experience with career progression through increasingly more responsibility positions in cement manufacturing.
    • Overall knowledge of cement industry including sales and marketing and quality control.
    • Thorough understanding of the cement manufacturing process.
    • Experience with state-of-the-art cement production technology,         such as pre-calciner systems and large roller mill and ball mill systems
    • Strong knowledge of modern maintenance technology and methods.        
    • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in how to optimize plant production costs.
    • Experience in a non-union environment an asset.
    • Knowledge of MSHA, OSHA and Federal and State environmental legislation and regulations.
    • High focus on continuous improvement efforts through lean manufacturing techniques to achieve long term objectives.
    • Financial experience in areas of P&L, budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, impact on volume, price and cost, preparation of CER [capital expenditure request] and post investment analysis of projects, with significant capital project management and resource development experience.
    • Proficient in MS Office applications.
    • General understanding of all business and back-office functions.
    • Solid knowledge of the organization, the competences, and products of Martin Marietta.
    • Knowledge of industry, marketing, customers, product quality requirements in commercial, residential and oil field products
    • Highly analytical; decision maker; results oriented
