    Position Summary


    Under supervision of lead mechanic, performs a full range of work involving servicing, preventive maintenance (PM) and repair of heavy diesel powered equipment. Maintenance of fuel, hydraulic and pneumatic and electrical subsystems in accordance with pertinent equipment manufacturer maintenance procedures.  




    • Perform PM inspection and repair on different types of diesel engine equipment and their subsystems, including transmissions, gearboxes, differentials, final drives, and their suspensions. Interpret and understand manufacturer technical manuals or other documentation required to independently diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and fuel systems of heavy mobile equipment
    • Become operator task trained in order to check work, move equipment in and out the shop and deliver or remove equipment to support maintenance, as required.
    • Perform a variety of less complex maintenance functions such as changing oil and hydraulic filters, lubricating, and repairing minor safety defects such as lights, travel and back-up alarms
    • Be able to work nights
    • Have own tools up thru ¾” drive


    High School or equivalent degree.



    Minimum of two year work experience in heavy equipment, diesel engines, hydraulic oil and fuel systems conducting minor and major repairs and period maintenance inspections and repair. 


    Preferred Education and Experience:

    • Vocational education and/or certificate in heavy equipment maintenance.
    • 2-3 years’ experience with Caterpillar and/or Komatsu Heavy Equipment such as motor graders, large wheel front end loaders and 70 to 100 ton off-road haulage trucks
