    Position Summary

     

    The ground control technician is responsible for ground control practices and management to allow a safe working environment for all employees.  This includes scoping holes in the ceiling of the mine and logging applicable data.  Also this role is responsible for any other ground control testing techniques required along with managing any mine remediation projects that take place.  Key objectives include adherence to safety standards and project expectations.

     

    Requirements

    • Bore Scoping
    • Log scoping data into AutoCAD and Excel
    • Manage Mine Remediation Projects
    • Manage Contractors
    • Communicate with Management on Progress and Findings
    • Perform all other related duties as assigned

     

    Minimum Education and Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Bachelor's degree in Mining or Geology 
    • AutoCAD and Excel experience
    • Good understanding of MSHA and Environmental Regulations

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Ability to read, write and verbally communicate in English language
    • Strong mechanical aptitude
    • Knowledge of various equipment used to process materials and maintenance of same
    • Ability to read operation and maintenance manuals, drawings, blue prints and schematics
    • Ability or willingness to learn use of computers and Oracle R-12 or other programs
    • Ability to use mobile devices for e mails, texts and CMMS
    • Ability or willingness to learn MS Office documents viz. MS Word, Excel and Power Point
    • Proficiency in basic math – viz. add, subtract, divide, multiply, average, percentages, etc.

     

    Physical Requirements

    • Climb up to 60 feet above ground on ladders and catwalks
    • Walk/stand on uneven ground,  throughout the work day
    • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, kneel and climb ladders/stairs to inspect facilities and to observe/perform work activities throughout the work day
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds
    • Must possess good dexterity and hand/eye coordination for use of various hand tools
    • Able to reason through difficult operations problems, resolve said problems and/or relate same to others
    • Capability of working for long periods of time in extreme heat and in dusty areas, confined spaces and heights
    • Ability to work at heights (up to 350’)

    Working Conditions

     

    Works in all weather conditions including heat, cold, ice, rain and in high humidity and is required to work in all plant environments. Incumbent will be exposed to noise, vibrating equipment, mechanical and electrical hazards and heights.
