    Position Summary

    Under the direction of the Production Supervisor - Utility, the Process Assistant assists his/her team in cement manufacturing and housekeeping. This position will be developing and learning the process.



    • Continually monitors operation of plant to detect problems and react to minimize any issues.
    • Maintain a safe, clean work environment in keeping with MSHA and Company rules and policies
    • Learn to operate plant equipment as opportunities become available
    • Operate Bobcat for clean-up. Ability to change oil, air filters and grease machine.
    • Clean and paint production areas
    • Assist with tower plugs and unplugging the rotary feeder chute
    • Cross train for Sr. Process Assistant, Tower Attendant and Material Handler to cover relief
    • Assist with the building of scaffolding in the Preheat Tower and Clinker Cooler
    • Check oil levels in Roller Mill and Coal Mill Rolls
    • Perform housekeeping duties
    • Must work some weekends and off hours
    • Must work rotating shift on occasion
    • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor

    Minimum Education and Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Relevant work experience preferred

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Must have a willingness and ability to learn new tasks and operate with considerable focus on safety
    • Ability to read, write and communicate verbally in English (meetings, telephone, & radio) preferred
    • Must be a self-starter able to work with little or no supervision
    • Must be able to perform all duties in a safe manner
    • Maintain a positive work attitude
    • Ability to perform minor maintenance
    • Must clear ATF Certification for handling explosives
    • Must have good attendance
    • Able to reason through problems, resolve said problems and/or relate same to others
    • Ability to operate guzzler
    • Ability to reason through operational issues as they arise and resolve them or communicate with others
    • Preferred knowledge of equipment used in the manufacturing of cement
    • Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibilities
    • Excellent work and safety record
    • Understanding of Lockout/Tagout procedures


    • Lift up to 100 pounds and push a wheelbarrow containing 60 – 100 pounds
    • Ability to climb up to 100’ on ladders and catwalks and perform work
    • Ability to work at heights up to 350’ above ground level
    • Visual acuity, speech & hearing, hand & eye coordination
    • Manual dexterity to operate equipment and use basic hand tools
    • Must be able to use jackhammer, shovel, broom and wheel barrow for up to 8 hours per day for various plant cleanup tasks
    • Walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, driving, and squatting to perform the essential functions of this production labor position
    • Physical requirements also include visual acuity, speech and hearing, standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, climbing on equipment, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing and squatting
    • Must use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required


    Must be able to work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, and/or rain). Must be able to work in noisy environment with noise levels up to 120 dba. Must be able to work in environments including vibration and mechanical and electrical hazards. Must be able to work any assigned shift. May have exposure to dust, cement, clay, gypsum, sand, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, various fuels, etc. (See MSDS’s)
