    This position will have a strong emphasis on safe and professional management of project management staff including involvement in manufacturing, sales and operations. Activities include estimating, budgeting, forecasting, labor and equipment utilization, and ensuring operational and environmental best practices.  Manage resources to ensure they are fully utilized across all aspects of the asphalt and paving business.  Will manage six to eight direct reports.  Develop contingency and recovery plans as required.   Function as liaison between multiple Project Managers, internal staff, client staff, construction staff and contractors.  Build an effective team through hiring, coaching, developing, and engagement.

     

    As an Asphalt and Paving Area Project Manager, a typical day might include:

    1. Managing safety for themselves, employees and subcontractors to ensure they work safely; evaluating safety violations and exercising judgment of company policy to take appropriate action.
    2. Providing constructability input and construction planning.
    3. Monitoring projects, performance, and utilization; providing continuous improvement input and strategy development.
    4. Demonstrating leadership and negotiating skill and abilities.
    5. Making regular trips to jobsites during construction including: pre construction, progress visits, punch list, and construction closeout.
    6. Ensuring all jobs are maintained in project tracking systems with accuracy.
    7. Working with Leadership Team to review safety, estimates, job cost, budgeting, forecasting and staffing.
    8. Leading meetings with Project Management staff reviewing project performance, financial statements, and best practices.
    9. Conducting the employee review process and motivating and providing effective feedback.
    10. Partnering with internal and external customers, leaders, and team members to communicate and execute on project plans. This includes building a positive team culture and resolving conflicts.
    11. Developing, fostering, and maintaining positive, favorable, and effective relationships with the general public, customers, contractors, inspectors, construction personnel, and fellow employees.

     

    A successful candidate will have:

    1. A High School Diploma;
    2. Extensive (10+ years) self-perform construction management experience;
    3. Extensive knowledge of self-perform work, estimating, and employee management;
    4. Proven experience in managing all aspects of construction projects;
    5. Solid Safety implementation experience and successful Safety performance;
    6. Knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations; as well as CDOT regulations for Highway Paving and Traffic Safety;
    7. Very strong verbal and written communication skills and comfort interacting with a variety of internal and external customers;
    8. Strong computer skills including standard Microsoft Office applications, estimating software, standard accounting and scheduling software; as well as excellent organizational skills;
    9. The skills and ability to lead, motivate and foster relationships to enhance a cooperative team environment;
    10. The skills and ability to resolve conflicts and job related disputes in a diplomatic and tactful manner;
    11. Valuable knowledge of all aspects relating to project management and other necessary work items and best practices to  meet and exceed goals and budgets;
    12. Maintain a flexible schedule that may include nights and weekend hours.
