Position Summary

 

Manages policies, programs, and practices to ensure that Martin Marietta is in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards concerning the environment.

 

Reports directly to Environmental Director, Cement Division

  

Requirements

  • Operate in continuous communication with operation managers, executing agreed-upon environmental actions with little immediate supervision from the Director - Environmental.
  • Possess and maintain comprehensive working knowledge of environmental trends, legislation, regulation, and industrial processes specific to assigned area of responsibility.
  • Collect, evaluate, and disseminate in a timely manner to appropriate Martin Marietta personnel pertinent information relating to environmental matters.
  • Advise operating managers and other applicable personnel regarding Martin Marietta environmental objectives and assist in determining the optimum response and corrective actions in community relations, enforcement, and non-compliance situations.
  • Review proposed construction and/or modification projects to advise management regarding environmental permitting and control options and to ensure adequacy of option(s) selected and installed. This responsibility extends from project conceptualization through performance testing and start-up.
  • Represents Martin Marietta before environmental agencies involving regulatory hearings, meetings, and projects involving Martin Marietta facilities or objectives.
  • Engage in the typical responsibilities of an environmental manager, which includes planning, evaluating, organizing, staffing, training employees and submitting reports. Responsibility includes preparation and presentation for approval of the annual environmental budget.
  • Manage contract consultants or contractors to perform environmental work or services as required in conjunction with the respective operations management.

 

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Degree in Engineering or Science
  • Minimum of five (5) years related experience in cement or other similar industries.
  • Must have experience with Title V reporting, Part 98 regulations and PSD permits.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to speak clearly and have good hearing/listening skills.
  • Must possess the ability to read and communicate clearly (verbally and in writing) in the English language.
  • Must be proficient in the use of the computer and applicable software programs, including emissions Data Acquisition Systems (DAS) and other commonly used programs such as Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and others

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs and work outside during inclement weather.
  • Travel by commercial means or by self-driven private transportation as required.
  • Workplace conditions may include exposure to temperature extremes, odor, noise, and dust that may aggravate allergies.
