Position Summary:


Provide leadership to and effectively manage sales staff and overall sales function in assigned market area.  Maintain key account relationships to insure maximum market penetration and profitability.  Responsible for managing the sales team, which includes development, coaching, setting goals and performance management.


Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effectively lead, manage and develop sales and support staff
  • Provide technical training (CRM systems -, arc plan and other tools/systems) and skill set development (communication, negotiation skills, etc.)
  • Provide frequent personal contact with key customer base to maintain maximum market penetration and profitability for Martin Marietta and ensure customer satisfaction
  • Increase annual sales and significant growth in profits by developing new business, expanding markets and developing strategic opportunities for long-term growth and efficient flow of inventory
  • Analyze market trends and activity to create strategic solutions to market shifts
  • Develop annual sales plan based on market intelligence acquired through customer interaction, Department of Transportation spending, and other market tools
  • Deliver key goals/objectives for success by consistently meeting targeted yardage, revenues, and selling prices to ensure maximum profitability
  • Closely manage the sales function in conjunction with other departments and managers (dispatch, sales support, credit, etc. ) to ensure that Martin Marietta becomes the supplier of choice
  • Effectively communicate with operating personnel to ensure plants are meeting customer needs and that proper inventory levels, particularly key products, are sufficiently maintained
  • Communicate with District personnel so that they remain informed and on-board with daily sales decisions
  • Work closely with district credit personnel regarding new accounts and accounts receivable
  • Strong emphasis placed on developing strong functional relationships between production and sales

  • Business Acumen – proficient at strategic planning; market analysis; and account planning
  • Forecasting – work with operations staff regarding inventory, production, etc., to consistently deliver timely and accurate reports, data and forecasts
  • Financial – create and execute strategic and tactical sales plan to achieve objectives/key performance indicators (DSO, profit, ASP, tonnage, repeat business, new customers, etc.)
  • Customer Service – exceptional customer management skills and developing customer loyalty
  • Safety – compliance with the Company’s Safe Driver Policy; adhere to safety regulations (state, federal, company ) while on site and attend and speak at plant safety meetings; work with customers and/or trucking companies to ensure drivers are compliant with these regulations at all times while on  Martin Marietta property


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Sales/Marketing, Communications or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years sales experience in the ready mix industry or related field (i.e. construction, etc.)
  • Previous supervisory experience is required
  • Proven sales, negotiation and customer service skills; demonstrated capacity to develop rational pricing strategies and sales forecasting
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and proficient in MS Word, Excel and Power Point. Proficient in CRM systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team to achieve district, division and company objectives
  • Sound working knowledge of ready mix and construction materials, including basic knowledge of customer uses of our products (i.e. pavement bases, concrete plants, asphalt plants, etc.)
  • Knowledge of ready mix production including quality control
  • Ability to travel, including overnight as needed
