Position Summary


Under supervision of the Utility Supervisor, maintains the housekeeping of the various areas of the plant.


Essential Functions

  • General plant cleanup
  • Visually inspect belts and equipment
  • Assist with kiln repair jobs         
  • Check and service mobile equipment                 
  • Assist with loading clinker into railcars
  • Clean buildup in rock hoppers and raw mills, feed-end kiln hoppers
  • Help maintain water and drainage systems                     
  • Help maintain plant landscaping
  • Assists with kiln repairs when needed
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Lift up to 60 pounds
  • Visual acuity, speech & hearing, hand & eye coordination
  • Walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, driving, and squatting to perform the essential functions of this production labor position
  • Must use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required

Minimum Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to read, write and verbally communicate in the English language.
  • Must be able to read & understand operations and maintenance manuals, drawings, and schematics.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in cement or related industry preferred
  • Complete vehicle inspection forms
  • Pass required physical examination and drug screens
  • Preferred knowledge of all types of equipment used in the manufacturing of cement
  • Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility
  • Ability use shovel (sometimes overhead onto conveyor), broom, and wheelbarrow
  • Ability to operate jack-hammer weighing 40 lbs. sometimes in overhead position
  • Ability to operate a bobcat, fork-lift, trash truck, and dump truck
  • Able to read and understand operating manual for mobile equipment operated
  • Able to use brick saw, lay brick, and build forms in clinker cooler
  • Ability to weld crows feet for nose casting in kiln or weld lugs for kiln chains
  • Able to open and close rail-car doors using bars and sledge-hammer
  • Must be able to work on top of railcars wearing safety lines
  • Must be able to work closely around moving equipment and machinery
  • Must be able to operate weed-eaters, lawnmowers, and other light equipment.
