General Summary

Responsible for providing leadership and effectively managing all aspects of the business including sales, production, quality control, and safety.  Key responsibilities of the position include: assisting in the development and execution of a strategic business plan for long term growth, contributing to the development of customer segmentation and pricing strategy for the market area, overseeing customer sales, budgeting, forecasting, and producing regular reports of progress. Will also be responsible for managing production and delivery personnel to maximize plant and fleet efficiency, as well as safety. This role reports to the General Manager.  Competency requirements include business acumen, customer focus, developing talent, driving positive business outcomes, and building effective teams.  The preferred candidate can lead and motivate within a safe environment.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Cultivates a positive safety culture in assigned operations by championing Martin Marietta Guardian Angel safety culture. Builds individual accountability and rewards/recognition into safety approach with the assistance from the safety team
  • Ensures daily coordination between production, delivery, distribution, and quality control
  • Directs production activities to ensure strict adherence to cost and quality standards and takes immediate corrective action when deficiencies are noted; Achieves production targets driven by market potential
  • Build effective teams and develop direct reports for future opportunities, including cross-training
  • Ensures that all personnel comply with Federal, State and local regulations
  • Ensures Company safety rules, policies and regulations are met through periodic inspections of plant machinery, equipment, personal activities and working conditions
  • Drive operational and safety performance through continuous improvement initiatives that meet or exceed company and regional goals
  • Maintain optimum raw material inventories at all locations to meet planned volumes. Responsible for coordinating raw materials shipments to ensure cost effective inventories. Responsible for overseeing month end inventories
  • Responsible for maintaining updated Hazcom, ADEQ and other environmental records and permits for assigned operations. Responsible for compliance and all administration related to environmental regulations. Coordinates all environmental issues with Environmental department
  • Works with Procurement to purchase or direct the purchase of supplies and equipment in accordance with company policy- recommends or changes vendors to reduce maintenance costs
  • Implements and reviews ongoing contracts, purchase orders, appropriations and expenditure requests
  • Coordinates with General Manager and HR to properly and safely staff the operation and comply with labor law and affirmative action goals
  • Creates profit and capex plans, market analyses and special reports for the approval of the General Manager
  • Maintains operational security
  • Serve each customer, supplier and community stakeholder with integrity; operating within the core values of the Company at all times.
  • Deliver exceptional service to customers, including product training, marketing support, and timely resolution of customer concerns/problems
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and adjust performance goals and initiatives accordingly, to ensure a competitive edge
  • Meet pre-determined margin goals through the activities of direct reports
  • Maintain detailed customer data files, including updated program agreements and pricing
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships and collaborate effectively with internal support groups including Procurement, Environmental, HR, Credit, Finance, etc
  • Lead, hire, and develop high-performing staff
  • Schedule and lead monthly team meetings with the sales team and area leadership
  • Implement performance improvement plans according to Company procedures

Preferred Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledgeable in OSHA and DOT regulations and compliance
  • A thorough understanding of quality control processes and ACI/ASTM guidelines and specifications regarding concrete construction, ACI certification preferred
  • High standard of ethics, integrity, and trust; Good judgment
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, customer service and housekeeping
  • Demonstrated proficiency and success in building a sales program and sales team
  • Proven sales, negotiation and customer service skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient in MS applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and in BI systems
  • Ability to travel overnight as needed

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sales/Marketing, Business, Civil Engineering, Communications, or related field or equivalent experience preferred
  • Three years of successful leadership performance in the building materials, manufacturing or construction industry in a complex market is preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time (up to 8 hrs.), stand, walk, stoop and bend
  • Must have manual dexterity to use hand tools, and be able to see and hear
  • Ability to pass required drug screens
  • Ability to work minimum 10 hour days, 5 days per week
  • Ability to walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and /or slippery ground)
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders as high as 100 feet in elevation
  • Ability to climb on equipment to provide supervision during work and ensure proper maintenance is being performed
  • Ability to operate the Company vehicle for a minimum of 8 hours per day including entering and exiting the vehicle frequently; occasional overnight travel required
