Position Summary


Under the general direction of the Director, Technical Services or VP Operations, the Manager, Reliability & Maintenance will be responsible for all aspects of cement plant reliability programs with the express goal of improving plant reliability and availability, while reducing maintenance costs through implementation of strategies, programs and standards that reduce unplanned downtime on major process systems [Primary crusher, Raw Mill, Kiln, Cooler, Coal Mill, Process Bag Houses, Finish Grinding Systems, Material Handling Systems]. The Manager, Reliability & Maintenance will establish standards and provide direction to all cement plant maintenance-related activities and will act as a professional resource to cement plant operations maintenance and related programs.



  • Member of the Division Cement Management Team focused in the designated area to develop, establish and maintain world class maintenance standards at the cement operations.

  • Development, Implementation of Reliability & PM Systems. Creates and participates in reliability improvement initiatives providing guidance to the maintenance management.

  • Review critical maintenance plans (PMs, Predictive, critical equipment identification and enhanced maintenance programs).

  • Health & Safety: Reinforces the Martin Marietta culture of zero injury and illness.

  • Environmental: Understands and proactively avoids environmental impact and potential risk to the businesses through preventative maintenance programs and use of tools to predict failures before they occur.

  • JD Edwards interface applications

  • Use of key performance indicators [KPI’s] to measure, analyze, develop action plans to improve where needed, and focus business on to raise plant operating performance in key areas as reliability, availability, mean time between failure, % uptime, and maintenance cost per ton.

  • Equipment specifications for operations

  • RCFA compliance & review

  • Outage planning and training including CPM scheduling

  • EIT development program for new reliability engineers

  • Ensures effective equipment troubleshooting training, including root causes identification and action plan implementation.

  • Manages major maintenance portfolio program.

  • Facilitates performance management and employee development. 

  • Establish dotted line reporting relationship of Cement Plant Maintenance Managers and Reliability Engineers to ensure that maintenance standards and predictive/preventative programs are established, achieve intended results, and are maintained at highest industry norms.

  • Act as technical resource to both plants when resolving significant major equipment reliability issues and corrective action steps to protect the assets.

  • Other duties/projects/assignments as required

Minimum Education and Experience

  • B.S. degree in Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical or Mining Engineer or related technical field required or equivalent experience in the cement industry

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in cement Plant maintenance, engineering and/or operations in management and Supervisory roles.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of Predictive, Preventative Maintenance Tools and methods

  • Candidate should have a strong technical background with excellent interpersonal skills

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills, as well as ability to make formal presentations.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate positive working relationships with all levels of management and staff.

  • Ability to direct, motivate and coach activities of others.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in problem solving, with strong analytical skills.

  • Ability to plan and coordinate the activities of others

  • Ability to teach and train in cement plant maintenance and reliability systems/methods
