Position Summary

 

Provide comprehensive HR generalist services to management/employees in assigned territory at multiple site locations. Position will support the Northeast Ready Mix District (Concrete operations in East and Northeast Texas). Office is located in Tyler, Texas. Reports to Division HR/Safety Director.

 

Requirements

  • Work with district leadership to develop work environments, effect culture change, and produce working conditions which maximize effective use of human potential and result in maximum productivity, profitability, employee morale and retention.

  • Provide consulting and counseling services to leadership regarding all functional areas of Human Resources including, but not limited to, Government Compliance Programs, Employment Practices, Labor Relations, Positive Employee Relations, Workers’ Compensation, Company Policy Compliance, Organizational Development, Legal Defense Issues, Wage & Salary Administration, Benefits Administration, Employee Development and Training, Workforce Planning, etc. Substantive experience in these areas is strongly preferred.

  • Works with district management to develop staffing plans, sourcing/recruiting strategies, and employment advertising. Responsible for leading/coordinating recruiting efforts in assigned territory.

  • Coordinates onboarding/orientation efforts including all pre-employment screening processes.

  • Will act as resource for employee questions regarding employee relations issues, benefits, Company policy, and other work related topics.

  • Responsible for investigations of employee complaints, ethics hotline calls, and other issues related to employment. Mediates disputes.

  • Works closely with management to coordinates performance all employee disciplinary actions and performance improvement plans in assigned district.

  • Assists management in the succession planning process for assigned district

  • Assists management in developing and implementing salary / wage administration plans.

  • Ensures compliance with all employment related Federal, State and Local laws/regulations, as well as Company & business unit programs.

  • Responsible for active support of activities which will establish and maintain a world-class safety program that promotes an injury-free work environment.

  • Support safety efforts by participating in safety meetings, safety audits and plant observations. Participate in root cause analyses and incident/injury investigations

  • Performs administrative tasks necessary to ensure all above duties and functions are performed successfully.

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related discipline strongly preferred.

  • 5-7 years of HR generalist experience, preferably in building materials or similar industrial setting

  • Significant multi-site territory HR field experience strongly preferred

  • SHRM CP or SCP, SPHR or PHR preferred.

  • Bi-Lingual (English – Spanish) skills preferred.  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work effectively with managers and employees at all levels of the organization.

  • Good working knowledge of state and federal legislation/regulations relating to employment, such as OSHA, ADA, EEO, ADEA, FMLA, etc.

  • Some safety experience strongly preferred. OSHA and/or DOT experience a plus.

  • Knowledge and experience with Workers’ Compensation, unemployment regulations and other employment related state law in Texas strongly preferred.

  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision. 

  • Must be able to communicate in a courteous and professional manner with employees, management at all levels, contractors, customers and others as needed.

  • Effective presentation skills for formal and informal meetings -both with hourly and management employees.

  • Must possess strong skills at prioritizing activities.

  • Positive, assertive, and persuasive “can do” personality and communication style.

  • Ability to direct, motivate, coach and influence the activities of others.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in problem solving.

  • Strong analytical and computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel.

  • Excellent work ethic - high standard of performance and production

  • Must have and maintain an acceptable safe driving record

 Physical Requirements

  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds from ground to waist, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity. Requires standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, bending and stooping, (all for up to 8 hours a day). Must be able to drive. Must have the physical ability to use a PC and cell phone.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently (company vehicle provided) to various plant sites within assigned district.       Some overnight travel also required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Most work time is spent in an air-conditioned office environment. Some work takes place in a plant or jobsite environment, often outdoors, in all weather conditions -heat, cold, wet or dry. May have exposure to cement, concrete, dust, sand, gravel, admixtures, diesel exhaust, various lubricants, etc. (See MSDSs).
